Workshops
-
«Warfare of Tomorrow - War in Cities»
INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS (ICRC)
The nature of today’s armed conflicts is changing: advancing technologies, militaries and indeed societies are giving rise to new weapons, means and methods of warfare. With a focus on armed conflicts in urban environments, this workshop discusses how the ICRC is preparing for the challenges of the future while addressing today’s needs with an ICRC expert of the Arms and Conduct of Hostilities Unit.
-
«Old myths and new challenges»
MÉDECINS SANS FRONTIÈRES (MSF)
What are the persisting misconceptions about humanitarian teams, misguided fantasies of working on the frontlines of conflict and the limits of ‘humanitarian neutrality’ in the face of authoritarian regimes and non-State armed groups? This workshop will explore some of the myths surrounding humanitarian action and confront us with contemporary practices and realities.
-
«You, me, and our values»
SWISS RED CROSS (SRC)
Being a humanitarian means being human. But what does that mean and how do our personal values and skills link to the universal humanitarian principles? This interactive workshop offered by the Swiss Red Cross aims at bringing more clarity to these interlinkages and motivating every human to become a humanitarian in their everyday life.
-
«Neutrality: Fact or Fiction?»
SWISS AGENCY FOR DEVELOPEMENT & COOPERATION (SDC)
Because of social media, we have become eyewitnesses of humanitarian crises every day. But can we trust the images and news we see? Technological advances allow mis- and disinformation and so-called «deep fakes». The interactive workshop focuses on how we can distinguish between facts and fiction and how images influence our decisions and our perception of neutrality.
-
«Addressing urban challenges»
CITY OF ZURICH
Cities are playing an increasingly important role in dealing with humanitarian crises. With new cooperations with cities in developing countries, Zürich is often at the interface of humanitarian crises. Using the example of the city-to-city cooperation with Tyros (Lebanon), the workshop shows how fruitful cooperation has emerged from a humanitarian crisis as a result of the Syrian war.
-
«Kann Informationsfreiheit Kriege beeinflussen?»
REPORTERS WITHOUT BORDERS (RSF)
-
«Humanitarian action in a volatile world»
COMMITTEE FOR UNICEF SWITZERLAND & LIECHTENSTEIN
Today there are more children in need of humanitarian assistance than at any other time since the Second World War. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn about current challenges to guarantee sustainable interventions in the field of humanitarian action and critically reflect on influencing factors such as commercialization of humanitarian aid or funding and dependencies.
-
«Building local economies in sustained conflict»
ELEA FOUNDATION
International conflicts are lasting decades. Unstable economies during and following conflicts make doing business difficult as currencies fluctuate, supply chains are disrupted and investors stop providing funds. Yet entrepreneurs continue to invent, innovate, and supply needed goods and services. This workshop will discuss what entrepreneurs need to thrive in challenging circumstances.
