“Map for Impact: Become a Missing Maps Contributor with MSF”

Who: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
Workshop Leaders: Frédéric Ham - Geographic Information System Advisor, MSF  - and Leslie Jessen - Earth Observation Technical Lead, VOS Vienna.

Description: In this 90-minute session, MSF experts will explain why mapping matters for humanitarian work. Many crisis-affected areas lack accurate maps, leaving relief teams without vital data. By contributing to open-source platforms like OpenStreetMap, you’ll help bridge this gap and support MSF teams on the ground through practical mapping exercises.

Your impact doesn’t end here. Over the next three months after the Summit, join 2-3 follow-up online sessions to refine your skills and continue supporting MSF’s operational needs.

No experience is needed — just your motivation to help. Join us and be part of something that truly matters. Please make sure to bring a laptop and mouse for this workshop.

Why It Matters: Accurate maps save lives. Many vulnerable areas — whether affected by war, displacement, or natural disasters — are poorly mapped or missing entirely. MSF relies on precise maps to plan medical interventions and assist communities, from war-wounded patients in Gaza to displaced families in Sudan and tuberculosis care in Southeast Asia. By mapping, you play a direct role in this life-saving work.
